JCAB - Part 2

Spherean Lore and the Science behind it

Hello dear reader, if you are new to TFTD, welcome! Now that we are all here, let’s sit back and relax. Defragmentation will commence in 3… 2… 1.

This post is about my upcoming dystopian speculative fiction novel Spherean. Every other week, I write about my progress and share some world-building and lore aspects with you.

Spherean Lore: The JCAB

This taxi is a way for Sphereans to travel short distances within the Spheres, which are spanning all major cities. Earth has become less and less habitable, unfortunately, which necessitated the construction of Electromagnetic Spheres to protect its inhabitants from Cosmic Radiation.

GAIN (the Global AI NeuralNet), in its infinite benevolence, provides everyone with free public transportation based on the latest Quantum Levitation Technology. The Spherean pathways guarantee autonomous, safe and fast travel, and thanks to Direct Neural Coupling, all you have to do is think of a JCAB, and the nearest unit will pick you up in no time and bring you where you want to go.1

Below you see the JCAB operating in Sphere III during peak radiation hour. Completely safe. Trust in Gain.

I gave Joe a shot I took when I was visiting Jakarta back in 2009, processed with an orange tint and he then added some more elements. Fun stuff. While the story takes place across several Spheres, the above serves merely as a visual aid, illustrating the concept of Qlev taxis, a minor detail in an effort to create an immersive world.

About the Science

NASA is researching ways to protect astronauts from pesky space radiation, because let’s face it, we’re not made for space. Going to Mars is a utopian dream that more than likely has a dystopian end. Ask Ray Bradbury.2

Nevertheless, protection from cosmic radiation will be a priority in the future, no doubt, in space, and in the case of Spherean, also on the surface of a once habitable planet. Be it for example via a magnetic bubble like the NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts (NIAC) program, building a prototype called CREW HaT3 or a proper force field for spaceships like in Star Trek4 which technically is a superconducting magnetic shield. All science, no fiction.

And if you want to play around with Quantum Levitation today, you can, of course. Soon we may discover superconductors at room temperature5 and who knows where this technology will be in the future? Qlev pods anyone?

If you want to know how quantum levitation and superconductors work, check out the Math & Science video6 linked in the footnotes below.
