These videos are so, so cool. I love the sleek, high-concept sci fi vibes that I get from them, too.
Do you find building lore in instalments for your audience is helpful for the novel as a whole? Like, does it also help you sink deeper into the world, or are you already fully within that world, and you see these as more of sharing parts of it with others to get them to sink in deeper themselves?
Thanks, Taegan! I see it as a way to share parts of the overall world concept, a preview of sorts so people can have some idea of what to expect and once the novel is released they will be familiar with parts of it and thus the experience will be richer for it, hopefully. JCABs are not a dominant part of the story but like a blade of grass, it adds texture.
It also serves as part of a futurism exercise. Spherean is not a Space Opera, there are no spaceships or Terminator robots. The story takes place on a future earth, our earth 500+ years from now. What will happen? Will we run out of fossil fuel? Will the Ozone Layer be gone? Is capitalism still a thing? Is there even enough lithium for all the batteries needed to go fully electric? And how green is that? Lithium batteries are not your regular trash. Quantum levitation (not maglev) is not a "profitable" solution in a predominantly capitalistic system.
Spherean is set in a future where we have gone through a cataclysmic event that sent us underground and after centuries we reclaim the surface. Spherean plays with this idea of "tabula rasa" where civilization has rebooted itself and is once more facing seemingly insurmountable odds. Will we break the cycle finally? Told from the perspective of one hapless Scientist Hein Sorenson.
Haha, It works! Neural Link established. Thanks, Nathan, much appreciated. Yeah without Ozone Layer and weakened natural EM field, I am afraid it won't be much fun outside the Spheres without proper protection. A bit like landing on a toxic planet in No Man's Sky with zero resources.
Audiobook... hmm. 1984 Chapter 1 has been recorded. It's slow going. Intro video will go live soon on my YouTube channel. Also, still need to do TMWWD audio version. Although, I saw you can now listen to any Substack post via AI voice. Not the same, eh?

Super intrigued about this concept of a future. You may have mentioned this somewhere but when are you looking to finish the draft of this novel?
At the current word count Sept/Oct for draft zero. I may decide to put up chapter one before the end of the year.
Thanks to Direct Neural Coupling, all I had to do was think of this post and it arrived in my inbox 😉😁
Peak radiation hour?!! Eep. Not sure I want to live there. But, at least GAIN has me covered, no?
As always, love the detail, immersion and small details that build on the lore and world. Excellent.
And I still love the voice. When audiobook?!😊

Looking forward to it. And no, definitely not the same with their AI voice. We need those deep tones of yours here. GAIN won't allow any other.
That would be an accurate assessment. I tried Tooth Worms with the AI voice and stopped after the first paragraph. 😎
