2009 marked my switch from analogue to digital photography. Having bought myself a Canon 50D and an EF 50mm f/1.4 lens for Christmas (2008), I tried my new purchase along the local river, snapping away without concern for film or development costs.
I took pictures of the Christmas tree, the presents, the Sunday dishes, and the cutting board with sliced peppers and onion. I took pictures of everything. Almost everything. In hindsight, I should have spent more time reading about the various settings and enabled RAW mode. The above is one of the first images I took with the new camera while on a day trip to Prague, one of the last trips I would have with my parents.
If you wonder about the coffee there, apparently, this cafe is an overpriced tourist trap (TripAdvisor advises). If you have been, let me know what you think. We did not go in, but I liked it from a story perspective, a visual writing prompt, e.g. a 50-word minisaga or dribble1.
Ready for a little dabble in a streetcar dribble? If you like, share yours in the comments below. Tennessee Williams2 wrote a few words about another streetcar, but that was then, and it was a bit more than 50 words.
Speaking of coffee prices in 50 words…
“50 cents for a cup of coffee?” The woman eyed him with suspicion. “What’s wrong with it?”
The waiter inclined his head in disdain.
“I bet it’s not even real coffee. It’s fake, isn’t it!”
He lifts the cup, drinks, savouring each sip, smiles and wishes her a good day.
A tiny dribble over a few drops of hot beverage. There may still be places where you can get a cup of coffee for 50 cents these days, or even free coffee! The best coffee I ever had was at Lake Toba in 2011 while doing a photo shoot for a Batak fashion designer. Our host had a small roasting operation, and those beans… oh, that flavour. Ah, Sumatra. Beautiful. We’ll go there another time.
In January 2009, Andrew Bird released his album “Noble Beast,” and I liked his previous work “Armchair Apocrypha” (2007). In the usual Foto Friday fashion, I chose a tune in synchronicity with the image at hand, leaving causality up to your imagination.
I hope you enjoyed this Foto Friday edition, and please let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
And now she'll never know... :)
I'd heard of a drabble but never a dribble! Coffee features centrally in my short story posting later today.
That photo looks like you've timetravelled. Exquisitely shot. 👏
Hadn't heard of a drabble or dribble! I think it's too early for any dribble writing to come out yet, though perhaps there was some dribble whilst I was fast asleep 🤷♂️😂
Unfortunately, that video comes up as Not Available for me. Might be region locked. I'll search for a version instead.
Love this series, Alexander! Keep it up.
