Real Talk – Part 2
As with the previous post, the above is fictional (give it another 399 years). A part of the world-building and lore from the novel SPHEREAN, set on future Earth, where GAIN, the Global AI NeuralNet, controls all, in its infinitely caring and providing life-sustaining benevolence.
SPHEREAN Lore
In my last post, I mentioned SPHEREAN Dictionary and GAIN Directives. Let’s look at the term Defrag in the context of the novel once more.
DEFRAG /ˌdiːˈfræɡ/ n. See also DEFRAGMENTED (obs.): Augmented human clone with degraded neural performance due to repeated fragmentation of neural clusters. Symptoms range from loss of memory to hallucinations, up to cerebral haemorrhaging.
n. location: a place where fragmented neural clusters are defragged.

This does various things and sets the framework for a larger plan. It mentions several concepts and alludes to a fragmented society. There are Defrags. What’s their social status? What other factions are there, and what is their purpose? Why are there factions in the first place in the future? Questions, questions.
Factions in SPHEREAN
There are four factions in SPHEREAN, five if we count the Defrags. All of them fulfil different functions in the day-to-day under the Spheres. GAIN gives them purpose. Let’s see what the GAIN Directives have to say about that.

The Logicians shall balance all Clusters under the Spheres.
Those Logicians sound mighty important. They are in charge of all neural clusters, of which a lot more have been added to the ArcHive with the recent S-zer0 launch. Let’s hope they don’t mess up.
I will post more lore and world-building details (a LORE section is in the works) as I progress with the novel, which is currently at 39k words.
Here’s a logline for SPHEREAN.
The Spheres that protect the last of Earth’s civilisation are failing. Scientist Hein Sorenson has found the solution, and gets entangled in a web of cybertheft, corruption, and murder that leads to the destruction of one of the Spheres. A race against time unfolds to ensure the survival of the human race.
