Deep read, Alexander, thanks! Read this in bed just after waking up. Not sure if that added to the effect. I've never read much Poe (much to my shame), but this was enlightening and complex. Great essay. When I eventually get to the book, it's good to have this as background and reference.
edit: now, can I manage to somehow weave the word "ratiocination" into my work today...
Funny fact. I forgot what the word meant because... years pass, brain does things... you know. Sorry to put you through the wringer so early in the morning! Poe is one of my favourite authors and "TPL" along with Melville's "Bartleby, the Scrivener" are two of my favourite, no, also Hemingway's Hills, those like White Elephants, are three chief weapons, I mean, short stories that top my list. Thanks for reading, Nathan. TPL is linked up top, it's a short read. Boring for some, but alas, there is more to it. There always is.
No no, it was great, a good way to emerge from slumber and intrigue. Appreciate it.
Funny, I've read ALL of Lovecraft's work, some multiple times and also the annotated Penguin books by ST Joshi, and Poe is rife in his influence, but for some reason I've barely scratched Poe's works.
Lovecraft, yep. I have the complete works, read some, but not all. Re: Poe, the book I linked "The Fall of the House of Usher And Other Writings" has a variety of his work, a good place to start.
