Most excellent, Alexander. You know, as I was reading I was thinking to myself "this feels very Carter. Could this be some kind of Carter in-universe story?"
And, hah, it is! 😁
But do we get to know more?? Will we find out through the Chronicles? I'm most intrigued.
Thanks, Nathan! Yes, indeed, it is supposed to read like Carter. A different POV, a different character at a different place and time. How does it all fit together? Stay tuned for CARTER Part Two. Soon.
I had a moment or recognition! Very cool of you to tie in this story to your larger work. I hope it's not the last of Mr. Thorne. But I get a pang of sadness when reading "Only one of us could exist."
Oh wow, I like the tie in with the History Channel vid!
This story is really immersive because of the way you play with rhythm I think. I like the fast pace, and then slowing down for a strange kind of reflection at the end. Creepy kids are always good, too :) This morning, I opened the door to leave the bathroom quite early and found my son (almost 5) standing there, staring at me. He eventually snapped out of it and laughed but it sort of throws you. Sometimes it seems like they know more than we do.
Thanks, Kathleen! Much appreciated. I had a different ending at first which didn’t work for me. The strange reflection part was my first impulse which I followed in the end. It’s a transition of body and mind, as unreliable narrator we can’t be sure what he sees or does, after all. And yes, that site is fascinating. I did a preliminary research on a couple of such ancient sites for Carter, more to come.

Thanks, Nadia! Ah, Mr. Thorne, one of them will prevail. Or maybe it will be a brand new Thorne... we may meet him again.

re: 5yo – oh yes. been there, many times. They also like to watch you sleep before they wake you... 😁

great little story
Thanks much, Dante!
"Somebody give this man a tic-tac" haha. great line and story!
😁 Thanks, Ryan! Glad you enjoyed it.
Really great stuff Alexander. As Nathan said, it had a definite Carter vibe so delighted that these two characters paths will cross
Looking forward all the more to Carter Part 2 now!
Thanks, Daniel! Glad it was recognisable as a Carter-Verse piece. Part Two is in the works. Soon!
Really enjoyed this Alexander. A piece of flash fiction that contained a gripping story. Of course the only problem is that now, I want to know more!
Thanks, Shaina! Glad you liked it. Wanting more is a good problem to have, correct? :) Soon. Soon Carter will return!
