“Hello,” you manage, edging toward the kitchen doorway. Your palm is slick with sweat and you nearly drop the letter opener.

“Hello,” you try again. There’s no reply, but you sense someone – or something – is listening.

Do you continue toward the kitchen, or stop to investigate the jacket?
