Whoah! Didn't expect this continuation, and certainly not in this form!

Loved it. Super dark, built the tension well, ended with the strangeness. Would make for a great horror film short!

Thanks, Nathan. I had a direct continuation, a fight, a struggle, she wins etc. but the pull of the haunted house trope was too strong! It would be a nice little Carpenter-style scene, wouldn't it?

Totally!

So, who's gonna make that happen? 😉

I also meant to say awesome work with the narration. I especially like the distinct shift to the news presenter at the end.

Hollywood keeps calling but no one's home! 🤣 Dunno, haven't thought about filming it, maybe animated? live-action? hmmmm, would need a screenplay!

Ah yes, news presenter, playing with Logic Pro voice effects :)

OK, so who would we cast? Any particular names in mind? :)

Some very b-rated actors if you're going for an Asylum film XD.

Some young Ryan Gosling as Mason (Say Cheese and Die! 😂)?

This was awesome. I listened to your reading of it, which was so atmospheric with the sound effects. And I liked this: “. . . Blood-red candles burned down to jagged stumps like scorched demon claws forever frozen in the cold twilight.”

Thanks, Daniel! Really appreciate you taking the time to read/listen. Glad you liked it! I saw a new Werewolf chapter dropped. Going to save it for later!👍

Delicious! I like the names in this piece too. It's just a detail but from the way they interacted with each other I thought the kids would be older, more like 15+. But what do I know about kids nowadays, right? :D

Thanks, Vanessa! Maybe, Jamie was the youngest ;)

You have a good point, too. Always helpful to hear this kind of feedback.

Very spooky and ambient! I can see it all visually unfolding in front of me. It should definitely be a film and part of a horror anthology!

Thanks, Nadia! Maybe something for Sadie Hartmann (Mother Horror)? 😅 Either way, we will need to find out whatever happened to Jamie!

This was really great, Alexander. Brilliant descriptive writing and the twist was perfectly executed. If you ignore the pun! Looking forward to future instalments 👍🏼

Reading and sending these from 40000 feet above The Atlantic Ocean where my Notes feed seems to be full of random maniacal posts from people I’ve never heard of and would certainly never subscribe to, so this story was a welcome reminder of not only how great your writing is Alexander, but also why I’m on Substack in the first place. Thanks for saving me from their craziness!

😲 40000 leagues above the ocean! Save travels! I never thought location would factor into what we see on our Substack feeds? If that seems to be the case... the horror! Well, glad I could restore some sanity to your feed in good old-fashioned horrific ways 😅
