Page Turners: War and Peace [B1P1C1]

A slow read of Leo Tolstoy's Masterpiece. Join me!

Hi, and welcome to Page Turners!

Here I narrate classic books, all those must-read books, the greatest works of all time, I will be reading book by book, page by page, chapter by chapter, starting with Leo Tolstoy’s masterpiece War and Peace.

Grab your headphones, and let's (re)discover all those classics together. I have spent over a decade on stage, performing in a variety of plays from Ayckbourn to Shakespeare, dramas, comedies, and musicals. With that experience, I will bring each narration to life with a rich tapestry of characters for you to enjoy.

This is my first and slow read of War and Peace. Shoutout to

who has prompted me to finally read this book. He is doing an all-year-long community read-through on his Substack .

Book One, Part One, Chapter 1

In 1805 St. Petersburg, Anna Pavlovna warns Prince Vasili about Napoleon, dubbing him the Antichrist. Amidst war talks, she praises Vasili's children, especially the gorgeous Helene, but deems Anatole a rogue. Vasili asks Anna to set up a meeting between Anatole and Mary Bolkonskaya, the lonely daughter of the reclusive Prince Bolkonski.

About the French: All French parts are kept and read in French to fully retain the "original" experience. This edition (Maude) includes translations in English on the same page along with the French, which are not part of the audio.

If you want to read along, I’m using the Oxford World’s Classics edition (translated by Louise and Aylmer Maude, edited by Amy Mandelker).

You can also listen to this read-through on my YouTube Channel or via the Page Turners RSS feed using your favourite podcast app.

Note: Most episodes will be published to Web-only, which means these will not be sent out by email daily.
