Always happy to see more photos. No need to ask about interest :P

Some excellent stuff here. The volcano does indeed look like another world. That's also an incredibly active volcano based on all those eruption dates.

I'd wager I could find you a best cup of coffee here in Melbourne. Rarely does a month go by where I am decrying that I have experienced the best cup of my life (made by others, I must admit).

Always more photos. Whether you want or not! ;)

Re volcanoes, Indoensia has a lot of active ones (147 of them), Merapi even erupted while we were in Jakarta, hence we changed our plans, cancelled Merapi and Bromo and went to Bandung instead.

List of volcanoes: https://www.volcanodiscovery.com/indonesia.html

Every year these claim the lives of tourists. (https://www.travelweekly-asia.com/Travel-News/Attractions/Tourist-falls-to-death-from-Indonesia-volcano#)

Bandung was the safer option. I will have to go to Bromo and Merapi on my own one day.

If you find "the best beans" I'll buy them off you! Roast date needs to be no more than one month old, so I can say: "Ahhhhh, fresh beans!" Really want to try an Aeropress soon. Lookig to order one. The little new grinder I have now is great, too. Now off to make that morning cup.

Don’t worry, I wouldn’t ever send or suggest anything that wasn’t freshly roasted, though not sure how well things would last on a long haul flight anyway.

I invested in a decent grinder last year. It does make a big difference. (Never tried a hand one, though I’m sure yours is excellent.) Aeropress is excellent, as is a V60.

I better come over so we can have that cup together!

And yes, the tools matter :) My friend in Jakarta, he even uses thermometer, scale, he measures everything... I'm mostly going with my gut thus far, but may try a more scientific approach, can be fun , too.

Yeah, my brother is the same, and for a long time I used a timer and scale for my V60, but now I have a good feel for the flow rate and amount that works well for me.

James Hoffmann's advice on YouTube is great!

You paid 13 million for a dinner? 😜

I had so much fun following your trip along. You should get hired to travel to mass tourism destinations by locals frustrated with tourism. 🤣

Talking about not sleeping at night: In Romania I stayed a couple of nights in a soviet era hotel. I was on the 9th floor. The wedding from the terrace across the street kept me awake until 4am. The funny thing is that, at street level, you hardly heard anything because the venue was inside a shopping complex. But the sound propagated like crazy as soon as you went up. Closing the windows didn’t help.

I always pay millions. "All you can pay." ;) Well, in Rupiah (IDR), that is. Glad you liked the travel log and the images, and yeah, the things that keep us up at night, sometimes it's other people having fun! Unbelievable. 🤣

“I did stub my big toe, not on a sharp rock, but on the heel of my other sandal. The toe bled a lot, something only I can manage, I suppose. “ What a great bit, absolutely love it. And joining in the coffee convo, what a great way to end a post about a one month trip, back to the everyday. I mean, it’s the simple things in the end, the little comforts and pleasures. Thanks for sharing this trip with all of us and good luck with the water…

Haha, yeah me so clumsy. Front half of the nail succumbed to the heel of the Geox sandal while I took a step backwards, turning around, trying to locate the restrooms. Lucky me the nail didnt come off completely.

And yes, the simple things, they matter, like making a cup just now, inhaling the scent of freshly ground beans...

Thanks for reading, Brian!

Wow these views are incredible!! How’s I miss this? Slowly getting caught up but love seeing these beautiful photos. Agree with Claudia - you could do more travel posts for sure.

Thanks, Kate. Much appreciated. I might do a trip down memory lane for some trips, eg. Wales, Scotland, Greece, if I find the time scanning the prints (pre-digital :). Hope the moving is going well!

It’s ok, thanks :) getting there!

Sounds like a very interesting trip all round, Alexander

You are a far braver man than me going that close to an active volcano and, you’re right, it does look completely unworldly. Almost somewhere for Carter’s next adventure! 😁

Hotel restaurants really are hit and miss but I think your feelings about the hotel in general does either add or subtract to the overall experience. The fact that they upgraded you due to the noisy neighbours and gave you such a stunning view probably made you all the more relaxed to sit and enjoy the lovely food

As I mentioned before, hope you get all the water damage sorted with the insurance guys. Nothing worse after such a long trip

Always look forward to seeing more photos so bring them on 👍🏼😃

Thanks Dan! Yes, it would be a place Carter may venture. Time will tell! ;)

Re Hotel, the upgrade was unexpected but highly appreciated. Top notch service.

Unlike the insurance ping pong I am currently playing...

More photos coming in a future post! ;)
