Suuuch a good photo (yet again). Seems to be a good Blade Runner theme doing the rounds today 😉

Love the District mock-up, too, my prawn.

Melbourne currently has decent air. Only 3 days in the last month that just clipped above WHO threshold.

Thanks, Nathan. Let's all move to Melbourne... but then you know what's going to happen? I do see PM2.5 levels above WHO limits, though. All major cities are above 5µg/m3 when it comes to PM2.5.

District 10 is still a possibility. Some day. Prawn Day.

While the smog is sad and frightening, I’m please to see HK and also Blade Runner making a feature this Friday. Pollution was one of the main reasons I left HK when I did, but I recently saw that Paris has similar amounts. (Depends on which kind I guess) I’m all for dystopia fictions opening an ethical ellipsis to help the world to act. 🙏🏽

Great post!

Thanks, Kate. Indeed, the amount of smog is mind-staggering. I have images taken from the Peak that year, the skyline all covered in brown fog, maybe something for another Friday. The Victoria Harbour Symphony of Lights was more impressive that way. And yes, Paris is unbreathable these days (NO2, PM2.5). It got better during lockdown but after the reopening, it got even worse than before. Paris Is Banning Traffic Crossing the City Center From 2024. It's a start. Ideally, we need to get rid of all combustion engine transport. (https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-02-18/paris-is-banning-traffic-crossing-the-city-center-from-2024)

Great photo and article, Alexander. 1982 saw two of my favourite movies of all time released. The Thing and Blade Runner. As I mentioned in a comment on Nathan’s latest post, I also think 2049 is a masterpiece and I actually have a framed poster of K walking into a polluted orange enveloped Vegas on my wall.

District 9 is another great movie. I know Blomkamp wanted to make a sequel but hasn’t got around to it yet. I’m sure it would be better than making Gran Turismo!

Air quality here in Scotland today is 2 which is pretty good. In LA a few days back it was 63 which was not so good

40 years ago when I first watched Blade Runner and it told us humans had moved to off world colonies because of pollution it seemed a dim and distant nightmare. Now, not so much

Thanks, Daniel. Indeed, Blade Runner and The Thing, are in my Top Five. 2049 was visually stunning and I liked it. There was a 4h Director's Cut, which we'll never see. Then again, I think the Theatrical Release was already long enough.

Tears in Rain Monologue. From time to time I watch it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NoAzpa1x7jU

RIP Rutger Hauer. He came up with that line and Ridley liked it and that's what's in the movie. Doesn't get any better.

D10 is still a possibility! One day... I saw Gran Tourismo, my son likes to play the game, esp. with his PS5 VR2 headset. He liked the film and now he plays more Gran Tourismo 😅

I did check Edinburgh when I wrote the post and sighed. Nice air. Still above 5 PM2.5, though. Need to move into the Highlands. There's a lighthouse near the Old Man of Stoer. 3µg/m3 monthly avg. Let's go!

I found the breezometer historical PM2.5 check insightful, I checked all the places I lived so far... 😅

I didn’t know that there are so many tools already to check air quality etc. Which places are good to live based on that? Except for Vienna 😜

Places under 5µg/m3 of PM2.5? No city has that, I think. Vienna's monthly avg. is 18µg/m3. If you want under 5, you need to quit cities altogether. As I said to Daniel, the Lighthouse near the Old Man of Stoer has an average of 3µg/m3 per month. Ah, the Highlands. ;)

That smog! Ouch. Makes me actually imagine a Blade Runner film (the new one was very orange-y). I hope you get to move somewhere less polluted. Living in the burbs in a no-smoking community and where there are no gas stations, mostly pastures and farms, has been heaven for me.

BR 2049 was very orange-y indeed. https://wall.alphacoders.com/big.php?i=870886

Ahh, sounds like you're in the right spot. Sounds a bit like where I grew up. :) Where you hear birds in the morning, instead of traffic.

Yes. Cities are stinky, polluted, crime-infested (at least in the States a lot of them are...eep). Nature brings us back to ourselves.

Incredible photo. Do you spend a lot of time working on colours or do you aim to capture it raw?

Thanks, Taegan. Before Digital I would use a lot of different filters, expensive and not very practical, each lens a different diameter etc. With digital I can do color filters in Lightroom easily. This shot was very grey SOOC and I knew I wanted a duotone, selenium filter vibe which is why the initial version has the blue tone on flickr. With every shot, I have a certain creative vision in mind, which will happen in post. Esp. with Long Exposure shots, I do spend quite a long time developing the image. The advantage of shooting in RAW is that there is so much more detail you can work with afterwards.
