I forgot to mention Earthworm Jim, too! I could indeed have written more about earthworms, about the War of the Worms... maybe next time! Some Severian now and Spherean after.
See, I knew I was right to not squish any worms when I’m doing the gardening. To be fair, they always do seem to be very busy so always best to leave them to get on their way saving the planet. At least they’re doing the right thing 😕
Dog owners, of which I am one, are a constant source of annoyance to me. Cleaning up after your pet is not difficult. I know, I do it about 8 times a day, so the folks who don’t do it are just being deliberately lazy. It’s not you can’t see it. I might embrace my inner old man and start shouting at them or making signs
Thanks for the really interesting post Alexander, and good luck with the writing and Carter 👍🏼
Thanks, Dan! You're better than me then! I hunted them for fishing bait many times, trying to avoid all the minefields along the (artificial) river that runs the town. And yes, there are those with little to no consideration, and if they happen to own dogs, that attitude manifests itself visibly for everyone to see. There was a movie where the protagonist got the dog owner to pick it up on their second encounter. The title escapes me now...
I will probably spend too much time figuring out the movie's title instead of writing! :)
Voltaire was on to something. Did anyone listen? Thanks for improving my education on worms, today, Alexander, however, as Terry Freedman would say... "Enough persiflage!" Get us back to Carter.
I live on a lane with just four other houses spread over 3 km, the local 'déchetterie' is another 5 km away, not far in other words... and there is no charge for tipping household rubbish, yet I still find mattresses/washing machines/empty oil drums/shoes/engine parts dumped in the woods... this means, because nobody who lives on the lane would pollute it in such away (they have other means but that's a whole other story) these individuals are driving a 16 km round trip to do something they could accomplish in half the time, half the fuel cost (yet more unnecessary pollution) in a place that is designed exactly for this purpose - I don't understand, perhaps I don't want to...
Thank the gods for earth worms! I never imagined there were so many, small mercies!
It boggles the mind... harsher punishment may do the trick, but then again, if one would use one's brain... no punishment would be needed. Also, don't spit in Singapore...
This was an enjoyable morsel of facts, bleak as some of them are.
I would have been quite happy to read an entire post about earthworms. 😁
Hope Saturday is a productive day of writing. Failing that, more Severian!

You had me at brewing a cup of coffee, A - love this meandering meditation on earthworms, carbon footprints, and decline.
Thank you, Troy! Glad you enjoyed it!

Ahhh, Carter, he also needs to listen more... and he shall return soon! ;)
The 'factoids' were great. The stream of consciousness very familiar.
Thanks a lot, Scott! I tried to keep it stream-like, glad you liked it!

Glad you found it informative, Susie!
