You push through the door to the next room following the music, but the tune stops abruptly. There's an upright piano in the corner by a window. A metronome wags and ticks like a clock. You place your hand on the top of the instrument and feel the vibration—echoes of a song recently played. An unfinished melody beckons you to sit and resolve the motif. You are suddenly inspired with musical sensibility and study the notation in front of you. Just four notes are missing from the measure.
You drop your right hand to the keys and improvise, looking for the perfect tetrachordial composition, then transcribe to paper.
