soul cage
in the deepest hollow of her soul,
a shattered self, stripped of wings,
a fallen star lost on a distant shore,
chained by one sole desire:
to plunge into the depths of life—
to rise, to fly, to love.
what once was whole has come undone,
she dwells in her morbid cage,
lithe and frail,
without a voice,
to scream in silence—
let me die.
he bleeds with rage,
sears flesh from bone,
tears will from limb,
drowns every dream of her;
she must live,
lest life be all but rot.
blind eyes pierce beyond,
where no light treads,
fateful claws ever circling, lurking,
never resting, never gone,
their rancid cuts, a siren’s call,
spew their liquid promise—
let her fly.
caged souls, kindred spirits,
trapped in the cradle of their memories,
betrayed they writhe,
in forbidden love,
to forget—forgive—
without regret.
minds apart, yet as one,
they spread wings not theirs,
to take flight and soar,
together they are light.
a fleeting glimpse fed by timeless fire,
a seed of hope, a crimson grave,
keeping secrets of tomorrow,
together, here they lie—
and I must free them.
—Samuel C. Carter
Samuel ponders the fate of two souls trapped within what he calls the “Soul Cage.” The events that lead up to this precarious moment are chronicled in The Chronicles of Samuel Carter.

A double dose of Ipfelkofer to wake up to! What a delight.
Lovely words. You have stepped into the realm of poetic verse with grace.
Oh-so-intrigued as to what led Carter to this moment...
