Welcome to my first read of Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace.
You are listening to Book One, Part Three, Chapter 1.
If you’ve missed previous chapters, please find them linked here on the Page Turners podcast page.
This chapter took longer to record and I lost half of it due to an editing mistake, trimming the first seven pages into oblivion, so I had to re-record. Teaches me to read the warning popup: “no undo” means “no undo”. I also changed the processing slightly starting with Book One, Part Three, and I hope it sounds better. Let me know!
Note: Most episodes will be published to Web-only, which means they will not be sent out by email. You can always use the RSS feed to get new episodes when they go live using your favourite podcast app.
About the French and German: All French and German parts are kept and read in French and German to retain the original experience. This edition (Maude) includes translations in English on the same page, which are not part of the audio.
Want to read along? I use the Oxford World’s Classics edition (translated by Louise and Aylmer Maude, edited by Amy Mandelker).
You can also listen to this read-through on my YouTube Channel. Subscribe for more updates, and read along with us!
In other news, my first flash fiction Future Now went live a year ago in April 2023, and in celebration of that, I made it available for all new subscribers for free here:
