Countess Rostova asks for money from her husband on behalf of her friend Anna Mikhailovna. He readily grants it, believing that "everything is possible."Despite the subtle manoeuvres and delicate manipulation, there exists a sincere tenderness among the husband, wife, and childhood friends.
